About this file
This document contains Questions and Answers related to a federal contract opportunity for the Montgomery Meadow Fuels Reduction project. The key details are:
The project entails hand felling and machine/hand piling of standing dead and down conifers outside of Montgomery Meadows for the Stanislaus National Forest. The agency involved is the Department of Agriculture Forest Service. One of the questions raised the concern that the requirement for a rubber track excavator does not make sense, as it is a rare piece of equipment that would exert more ground pressure than a rubber wheeled excavator. The response suggests that mats could be used to walk across the site area if a rubber track excavator is required. No other substantive details about the solicitation, such as response dates, pricing terms, or set-asides, are provided in this document.

Questions & Answers Part 2
1) With all do respect, the requirement for rubber track excavator doesn't make sense. First off, this is a very rare piece of equipment (there aren't any in the surrounding area).
Secondly, a rubber wheeled excavator will exert considerably more ground psi than a rubber track. Maybe as much as 10 times. After speaking with the Archaeologists about the equipment requirement, you can use mats to walk across the site area if you are using a rubber track piece of equipment.
