About this file
This file is a Questions and Answers document with site visit directions for a federal contract solicitation related to roof replacement work at two cabins on the Custer Gallatin National Forest. Solicitation number 1240LU26Q0034 was issued on February 24, 2026.
The document addresses four key inquiries from potential bidders. First, the government clarified that synthetic shake roofing cannot be substituted for the specified shingles due to historic preservation requirements. Second, the government confirmed that while it is not scheduling formal site visits, contractors are welcome to visit the cabins independently, though winter conditions may require snowshoeing, snowmobiling, or hiking to access the sites, and the cabins may be occupied by reservation guests. Third, directions and signage information were provided for locating both cabins. Fourth, regarding available drawings and blueprints, the government stated it has no additional plans to provide beyond the B-2 Notes, which specify that roof measurements are approximate for bidding purposes and must be field-verified by the contractor before ordering materials and starting work. The document provides that Battle Ridge Cabin has a building footprint of approximately 588 square feet and Ibex Cabin has a footprint of approximately 500 square feet. The file includes detailed Google Maps driving directions from Bozeman, Montana to Battle Ridge Cabin (20.3 miles, 28 minutes) and from Livingston, Montana to Ibex Cabin (35.7 miles, 1 hour 3 minutes), along with corresponding aerial imagery showing cabin locations and parking areas.

Battle Ridge Cabin and Ibex Cabin Roof Replacement Custer Gallatin National Forest, Solicitation: 1240LU26Q0034 02/24/2026
Submitted questions and answers:
1. Q: I wanted to check with you to see whether your team would be open to considering a synthetic shake roofing option. A: The government is required to utilize the shingles specified in the documents in order to meet historic preservation requirements.
2. Q: I am reaching out to see if we can schedule someone from our team to visit the cabins next Tuesday or Wednesday for a site visit. A: We are not scheduling any specific site visits but you are welcome to go look at them on your own. Be aware that there are winter conditions and you may have to snowshoe, snowmobile or hike into the cabins at this time. Also, they are open for reservations and so there may be people occupying the cabins.
3. Q: Could you please provide directions or confirm if there are clear signs to help us navigate to the Ibex and Battle Ridge cabins? Additionally, how many miles are the cabins from the nearest parking zone if the sites are not accessible by vehicle? A:
See attachments below for directions. There are signs in place for each cabin.
4. Q: I wanted to ask if there are any available drawings, blueprints, or dimensioned plans for the cabins that you could share. A: The government does not have additional plans/blueprints to provide. B-2 Notes (page 2, Attachment 2) includes the following:
Roof measurements are approximate for bidding purposes. Actual measurements to be field verified by Contractor prior to ordering materials and starting work.
Battle Ridge Cabin building footprint (not roof area) is approximately 588 square feet; Ibex Cabin footprint is approximately 500 square feet.
