About this file
This document contains questions and answers related to a federal solicitation for Civilian Conservation Corps Campground Updates at the Dakota Prairie Grasslands. The solicitation involves excavation work including relocating road templates and parking areas, with the majority of excavation consisting of topsoil removal and replacement. While Class 5 surfacing is listed as an optional item if funding is available, there is no substitute specified if that item is not approved. Clarification is provided that the waterline profile showing burial at 2.5 feet deep is correct, and that 12 inches of compacted native subgrade shall govern over a general note specifying 6 inches of recompaction. No breakout of cut versus fill volumes is included in the bid schedule, and the document confirms there is no need to import topsoil.

1. Questions and Answers -01/16/2024
1. Waterline profile shows its’s buried roughly 2.5’ deep, general construction notes on C 2.0 mention is needs a minimum cover of 7.5’. I assume the profile view is correct? The 2.5-foot profile is correct
1. Detail views on C7.0 show 12” of compacted native subgrade, general construction notes on C2.0 call out scarify and recompact 6”, which governs? The intent is prior to placing embankment on native subgrade that the top six inches be recompacted. The 12” shall govern.
1. Is there a breakout of topsoil versus cut/fill of the excavation quantity that is listed on the bid schedule? It’s showing 5,100 CY total and a replacement of topsoil of 3,723 CY which would suggest there is only 1,200 CY of cut/fill. It appears like it will take more than the 100cy of import that is noted to balance and/or is there topsoil that needs to be imported that isn’t noted anywhere? The majority of excavation shall be topsoil and that is accounted for in the schedule of items. Relocated road templates, parking areas, are shallow in nature so the amount of embankment is minimal. There shall be no need to import topsoil.
1. The Class 5 is listed as an ‘optional item’ if funding is available it will be awarded, is there some other type of surfacing that will be required if the is NOT approved as an item or what is the plan there? If funding is available, it shall be awarded. There is no substitute.
