Summary

The site visit began at the Rombo Campground with introduc ons of all Forest Service personnel introducing themselves. Tanya Neidhart, the Developed Recrea on Manager for the West Fork Ranger

District was in a endance, as well as Shawn Boelman and Nick Lommasson from the Bi erroot Na onal

Forest engineering department. The contractors then introduced themselves and there were 6 different companies represented and many were local, if not at least from the state of Montana. Nate Wya from

River Design Group, the design firm who created the engineering plan set, was also in a endance.

The Contractors did not have many ques ons right away, but as we toured the site and reviewed the plans they came up with plenty of clarifying ques ons. I have included those ques ons, with answers, in a separate document for the CO to send out with an amendment to the solicita on.

During the conversa ons with the contractors, it became apparent that many of these contractors had done similar work and had plenty of experience to provide the Forest Service with a great product. It was encouraging to see so many contractors show up.

‐ Nicholas Lommasson

1. Will a Storm Water Pollu on Preven on Plan be required for this project?

a. No, the project is less than 1 acre so it does not fall under the requirements of obtaining a SWPPP.

2. Where can the contractor outlet the pump for dewatering the project site?

a. Clean water may be pumped downstream of the coffer dam back into the West Fork river. Water that has unacceptable levels of turbidity can be pumped up onto the banks of the river a short distance into the forest. For exact language, see the Technical

Specifica ons, Sec on 02140 Part 3.2

3. Are there hour restric ons for the use of a pump for dewatering?

a. No, there are no nearby residences so a pump may be used at any hour of the day that is deemed necessary by the contractor.

4. Will the campground be closed to the public during the construc on period?

a. The campground will be closed to the public for camping, and the contractor may camp onsite. No water services will be available, and the contractor is responsible for the disposal of any personal garbage that is created from camping.

5. Will ra ers/floaters be recrea ng on the river directly adjacent to the construc on site during construc on?

a. The Forest Service will work with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to implement a floa ng restric on during the construc on and removal of the coffer dam. However, at this me, the Forest Service can only provide that an effort will be made to discourage floaters during those mes and inform those floaters who do choose to proceed that they will have to portage around the construc on site for safety reasons. Floaters may choose to recreate during the construc on period and should be able to safely float past in the bypass area if water flow levels allow.

6. Will there be control points or stakes available for loca ng the project?

a. Staking is the responsibility of the contractor as specified in the Technical Specifica ons sec on 01400. Control points will be provided by the Forest Service. See the plan set, sheet 1, for the current loca ons of Control point 100 and 101.

7. The plan set men ons 12” minus grada on. Will the stockpiled material require a proctor grada on test to verify the grada on of material being used?

a. No, the exis ng government furnished stockpile, has been deemed an acceptable grada on of 12” minus and use of the stockpile will cons tute acceptably graded material.
