About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) for the End of the World G-Z Integrated Resource Service Contract, issued by the USDA Forest Service's Salmon River Ranger District. The project involves timber harvest and forest management across approximately 17,500 acres, with 16,000 acres of intermediate thinning (including commercial and variable density thinning) and 1,500 acres of regeneration harvest through clearcut, shelterwood, and seed tree methods. The primary goals include increasing treatment pace and scale, reducing fuel loading, improving forest resilience, and leveraging timber value to offset service work costs.
The project timeline includes RFI questionnaire responses due by 9/17, follow-up responses by 10/1, a potential fall 2025 site visit, contract preparation in winter 2025/26, solicitation in spring 2026, and contract award in summer/fall 2026. The initial project areas include five priority treatment zones: Jungle Bird (764 acres, 14.8 MMBF sawlog), Wooly Bully, Ski Bird, Cold Fir, and Free Bird, with potential treatment acres ranging from 1,189 to 4,739 across these areas. The contract will use an Integrated Resource Service Contract approach, focusing on end-result contracting and building partnerships with industry.

End of the World G-Z Integrated Resource Service Contract
Request for Information
Agenda
• Definition of an Integrated Resource Service Contract (IRSC)
• Purpose of Request for Information (RFI) Meeting
• Project Overview
• Goals
• Proposed Activities
• What’s been done so far
• Timelines
• Site Visit
Definition and Purpose
• IRSC = Integrated Resource Service Contract
• Reason for use = Costs of service work exceeds the value of timber to be traded
• To support removal of timber that road work, timber value, haul or logging systems would make uneconomical in traditional timber sale
• To support restoration or timber layout activities using timber value to offset funding need
• Method to build partnership with industry
• End Result Contracting
• Focus on outcomes
Purpose of RFI and Project Questionnaire
• Gauge interest in the project
• Receive feedback and ideas from industry on project development
• Identify potential challenges and solutions
• Questionnaire responses will be confidential
• Determine industry capacity
