About this file

This is Amendment 1 to Solicitation No. 1232SA26Q0996, issued by USDA ARS Acquisition and Property Division in Beltsville, Maryland, with an effective date of August 31, 2026. The amendment updates the time and date for receipt of offers and integrates Requests for Information and Attachment 4 (Location Pictures) into the procurement. Offerors must acknowledge receipt of this amendment in their quotes prior to the updated deadline.

The amendment addresses seven Requests for Information regarding the replacement of Schaefer exhaust fans at a USDA facility. Key clarifications include: the current fan manufacturer is Schaefer; voltage specifications are 115V with ¾–1/5 horsepower on two-speed units and ½ horsepower on single-speed units; heavy-duty TEFC electric motors with 1.15 service factor are sufficient; updated building pictures have been uploaded; the specified Schaefer model numbers (366S34, 366S34-2, 246S34BD, 246S34BD-2) represent existing fans to be replaced and updated equivalent models are acceptable; the USDA will accept Schaefer's recommended direct replacements despite differences in motor specifications; and quotes should include all components required by the manufacturer to function as specified in the Performance Work Statement, with optional upgrades priced separately for evaluation purposes.

3. It is taken to mean from the statement of work each exhaust fan driver will be a heavy duty TEFC electric motor with a 1.15 service factor. Will this be sufficient, or does the owner want the contractor/vendor to source premium efficient

TEFC motors if they are an available option from the manufacturer? Answer: It will be sufficient

d. Model 246S34BD-2 Schaefer offers models which it recommends as direct replacement for these units with similar performance in terms of CFM, but none are two-speed; all the new models are ½ horsepower, 5 blade, single speed fans. Will the USDA accept the recommended replacements or are contractors expected to source fans from alternate providers to match the existing units having ¾ horsepower and 2 speed motors? Note units from alternate providers might require additional modifications to the greenhouse framing whereas the Schaefer units will fit in the existing spaces. Answer:

The USDA will accept recommended replacements.

Any alterations to the facility to replace the fans will need to be included in the pricing quoted.

7. If the USDA is willing to accept the manufacturers recommended replacements, would the

USDA like an adder to retrofit the new Schaefer fans with 2-speed and ¾ horsepower motors where applicable? Answer: Quote should include any components required by manufacturer to function as required in Performance Work Statement. If upgrades are available, vendors may quote the upgrade price separately but evaluation will be based on the pricing for the base work.
