About this file

This is Amendment 3 to RFQ# 1232SA26Q0146 for the Building 2-3 Roof Replacement project at the USDA-ARS North Central Soil Conservation Research Laboratory in Morris, Minnesota. The amendment revises Section 3.7 of Project Specification 07 53-23, which addresses the installation of adhered roofing membrane systems.

The revised specification establishes detailed installation requirements for the roofing membrane, including: unrolling and relaxing the membrane before installation; accurately aligning the membrane with uniform side and end laps meeting manufacturer minimums; staggering end laps; applying bonding adhesive to substrate and underside of membrane at manufacturer-specified rates while avoiding splice areas; mechanically fastening the membrane at terminations, penetrations, and perimeter; installing side laps shingled with the roof deck slope where feasible; and ensuring watertight field-fabricated seams through cleaning, priming, and sealing splice areas per manufacturer instructions. The specification also requires spreading sealant or mastic bead over deck drain flanges and securing the roofing membrane with clamping rings at deck drains. All work must comply with the membrane roofing system manufacturer's written instructions.

RFQ# 1232SA26Q0146 – Building 2-3 Roof Replacement - USDA-ARS North Central Soil Conservation Research Laboratory (Morris, MN).

Project Specification 07 53-23

Section 3.7 INSTALLATION OF SELF-ADHEREING ROOF MEMBRANE

IS REVISED AS FOLLOWS:

3.7 ADHERED ROOFING MEMBRANE INSTALLATION

A. Install roofing membrane over area to receive roofing in accordance with membrane roofing system manufacturer's written instructions.

1. Unroll roofing membrane and allow to relax before installing.

B. Accurately align roofing membrane and maintain uniform side and end laps of minimum dimensions required by manufacturer. Stagger end laps.

C. Bonding Adhesive: Apply bonding adhesive to substrate and underside of roofing membrane at rate required by manufacturer and allow to partially dry before installing roofing membrane. Do not apply bonding adhesive to splice area of roofing membrane.

D. Mechanically fasten roofing membrane securely at terminations, penetrations, and perimeter of roofing.

E. Apply roofing membrane with side laps shingled with slope of roof deck where possible.

F. Field Fabricated Seam Installation: Clean and prime both faces of splice areas, apply splice tape, and firmly roll side and end laps of overlapping roofing membranes according to manufacturer's written instructions to ensure a watertight seam installation.

Apply lap sealant and seal exposed edges of roofing membrane terminations.

G. Spread sealant or mastic bead over deck drain flange at deck drains and securely seal roofing membrane in place with clamping ring.
