Orchard Fencing FY2020, Olympic National Forest
RFQ 1205G220Q0016
Q: Is the area of fence drivable by pickup or ATV?
A: Much of the area can be accessed with a pickup following removal of some small trees.
Q: What type of posts are required?
A: As stated in the RFQ, 6”X6” 12 foot long treated posts.
Q: How close is the nearest town and will camping be allowed?
Shelton is about 30 minutes away, no camping will be allowed.
Q: How rocky is the soil in this area?
A: The soil is very rocky, and there is a compacted glacial till layer that can be within 4 feet of the surface in some locations. The USFS has used an auger in the past for some individual post replacement, but it is very difficult due to the above factors. Past contractors doing replacement have used an excavator to dig the holes and then back-filled the holes around the posts.
Q: What is the reason for the fence replacement?
A: These sections of fence are likely about 30 years old, and every third or fourth post is currently rotted off.
Q: Is there a bonding requirement for this contract?
A: No
