LITHICS STUDIES QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
SOLICITATION NUMBER: 12046W20Q0041
• The scope does not specify any archival research. Are we to assume no demonstrative primary source research will be required? Past histories I have developed for the Forest Service and other agencies have relied heavily on archival research (National Archives and other collections).
• There may be a bit of archival research, but the intention is to provide a historic context statements for pre-contact and ethnohistoric lithic scatter sites in Central and Eastern Oregon. Each forest will have to add to this overall context with local pre-contact/ ethnographic data for any future Section 106 reports.
• I also saw the project only requires an SOI qualified archeologist. Again, past projects like this one that I have worked on were either developed by historians, or an interdisciplinary team consisting of historians/archeologists or historians/architectural historians. The resources and tasks in this scope seem to call for a team that includes at the very least a historian and archeologist, both of whom should have experience with linear resources. Is there a reason the scope limits the expertise to archeology?
• The intention is that there would be an archeologist that would be able to have the professional expertise on lithic resources but if there is additional work for a historian developing the historic context that would work as well.
