About this file

This document is a pre-solicitation notice for a design-build construction project to improve the medium voltage electrical (MVE) infrastructure and power production and distribution system for the standby chiller function at the Central Utility Plant (CUP) serving the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) campuses in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

The project, estimated between $25-100 million in value, aims to provide standby power for chilled water generation to ensure continuous cooling and humidity control for laboratories and facilities on the campuses. The work will involve correcting medium voltage and low voltage duct bank issues, replacing existing medium voltage feeders, installing above-ground medium voltage switches, and constructing a new medium voltage generator yard and electrical vault. The anticipated release date for the Request for Proposal (RFP) is August 23, 2024, with an anticipated bid closing date of September 23, 2024. The government is requesting capability statements from interested contractors, especially small businesses, by August 23, 2024 to assess the market's ability to provide the required services.
