1.2 Summary
The new Multimodal Transit Facility (the HUB) is located at 207 S. Sycamore, Wichita, KS. In Peak Service, the facility will serve as a transfer point for up to 12 fixed routes.
WT invites organizations to provide and install digital pylons towards the center of each platform zone and digital signs over the 12 bus stalls for bus route schedules. Refer to Attachment C for drawings that include tentatively proposed locations. WT is looking for unique proposals for cost-effective, high-quality products that would provide these solutions - real-time information and directional guidance - to WTs customers. WT understands - and expects - that the quantity and locations may need to be modified based on the product specifications.
The digital display signage and digital pylons will integrate with WT's current CAD/AVL provider, Avail, to receive the real-time data on vehicle locations and present the information to passengers.
AVL system data is transmitted between Avail and its buses over the existing cellular data networks via Verizon. The proposed intelligent display signage and digital pylons will receive a GTFS-RT data feed from the CAD/AVL system which will contain the data elements required to provide real-time transit arrival information on digital displays. The vendor will be responsible for working with Avail to integrate the data, if required, and costs to integrate must be included in this proposal.
Additional notes about the technical and functional aspects of the GTFS and GTFS-RT data feeds include:
• The "route-color" field is populated. The "route-text-color" field is also populated as either white or black depending on the color of the route.
Our Mission as an exceptionally well-run city, we will: Keep Wichita safe; Grow our economy; build dependable
City of Wichita 8 RFP #250350
• The GTFS and the GTFS-RT data streams share consistent identifiers.
• Avail supports GTFS Version 2.0.
• Static data is updated daily at 1:00 a.m. with the schedule for the next 30 days.
• Real-time data is updated every five (5) seconds.
• The dataset size includes: 23 routes, 1200+ stops, 500+ trips.
Intelligent display signage and digital pylons may also provide buttons that enable annunciations of real-time transit information for the visually impaired (OPTIONAL). Passengers will not be able to physically interact with the digital pylons, touchscreens are not required. WT is not conducting bus ticket or pass sales from digital pylons.
Signage and digital pylons should display, at a minimum, the next three arrival times for the vehicle.
Additionally, displays must integrate service alerts from Avail to provide passengers with timely notification of interruptions, schedule changes, detours, and other service-related announcements.
The proposed system shall be scalable over its estimated lifetime to support additional digital displays at other locations and transit facilities without replacement of initially installed components, including both hardware and software components. Further, it must be capable of integrating with the existing CAD/ AVL system used by WT for its fixed route.
Installation should occur before the public opening of the HUB. Interested proposers are encouraged to survey the HUB to best determine the proposed signage and digital pylon product for the space prior to submitting their proposal, and to determine the proposed locations for their product based on existing infrastructure (i.e. benches, columns, trashcans, etc.).
1.3 System Design
