About this file

This document is a product specification sheet for the TimeSync1-GPS and TimeSync D-GPS traffic signal synchronization devices manufactured by Electrotechnics Corporation (ELTEC), located in Marshall, TX. While the document appears to be associated with an Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) contract based on the government file metadata, the document itself is a product brochure detailing technical specifications and features of GPS-based traffic light synchronization units.

The TimeSync1-GPS is a universal traffic controller time synchronization device that operates on 8-40 volts DC and uses GPS technology to prevent time drift between intersection traffic light controllers. Key features include compatibility with multiple controller brands, programmability across 24 time zones, automatic daylight saving time adjustment, and a simple six-parameter configuration process. The device requires only three wire connections (power, ground, time reset input) and can be reset at configurable intervals ranging from hourly to once per day. The product comes with a 25-month warranty and is designed to be easily installed, passive, and all solid-state with no moving parts. A companion product, TimeSync D-GPS, offers a direct serial interface for controllers capable of accepting GPS satellite data.

TimeSync1– GPS and TimeSyncD– GPS

Surprisingly many intersection traffic lights don’t stay synchronized, impeding traffic flow, irritating drivers and wasting the signal shop’s time. ELTEC’s TimeSync– GPS units provide an easy and economical solution for preventing time drift and facilitate establishing time based coordination (TBC) between multiple controllers.

TimeSync1– GPS BENEFITS

•Universally Compatible: Can be used on many types of controllers
•Interoperability: Allows coordination between multiple controller brands
•Internationally Adjustable: Programmable to 24 time zones
•Easy Installation: Power, Ground & Time Reset Input
•Simple User Interface — No Switches or Jumpers
•Easy to Program: Six Parameters
•Very Affordable

Programming is done using an uncomplicated thumb wheel with only six parameters to configure: hour, minute, time zone, Daylight Saving Time (DST), frequency of reset, and rising or falling edge reset. Should the AC power to the controller be exceedingly “dirty” causing the controller’s clock to drift dramatically, resets can be done every hour. Alternatively, resets can be programmed for every 3, 6, 12 hours or just once a day.

The time reset input function cannot be interrupted even when navigating the programming menus. The memory is nonvolatile, retaining the programming with loss of power.

The TimeSync1–GPS operates at 8 – 40 volts DC. Because it uses the intersection controller’s power and GPS technology, no trenching between controllers is required.

Traffic Products and Warning Systems

The TimeSync1–GPS automatically adjusts to daylight saving time and has a programming option to disable DST should you live in an area that does not observe DST (Hawaii or an international time zone for example).

Installation is simple with three wires: power, ground and the time reset input (logic ground) connections and comes ready-to-install. The control unit mounts with a 35 mm DIN Rail clip on existing DIN Rail or with a four inch piece provided in the installation kit.
