Energy and Environmentally-Conscious Design

A. Environmentally responsible design considerations are discussed in the Air Force Environmentally Responsible Facilities Guide. Additionally, to the maximum extent practicable, the design shall incorporate recycled content materials as mandated by EPA's Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines (CPG). The non-availability of materials or technologies, lack of competition, failure to meet performance standards, and unreasonable price all meet the CPG requirements of issues that indicate that designers should explore other construction alternatives. Other alternatives may be found in the Environmentally Responsible Facilities Guide, as well as other aspects of "green" design and construction currently practiced in industry yet not mandated by EPA or the Air Force. The ultimate goal is to increase sustainability in construction and maintain a common-sense approach which must be applied to decisions made in this area. Innovative reuse of materials usually considered waste is also encouraged.

The project will conform to National codes and Regulations for building construction and safety in addition to Military Handbook 1190 and Unified Facilities Criteria 3-600-01. The work shall conform to the current editions of Air Force Global Strike Command’s and Malmstrom’s Facilities Excellence Guidelines where applicable to this design. Modern construction techniques should be incorporated in the project to obtain both quality and economy and to provide a functional, complete, and usable system. Any document referenced by the Contractor for inspection will be included as a required submittal for the Contractor, if such documents are not currently available from Malmstrom AFB Civil Engineering.
