About this file

The document is a Personal Appearance and Dress Code Policy for UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital (MSRH), effective 10/04/2024. The policy establishes comprehensive guidelines for professional appearance and dress standards for all employees, with specific requirements for clinical/uniformed staff and non-clinical staff. It covers various aspects of personal presentation including badges, hair, jewelry, makeup, tattoos, clothing, footwear, fragrances, and nail care, with the primary goal of maintaining a professional healthcare environment and ensuring patient perceptions of care quality are positively influenced.

The policy provides detailed specifications for different staff categories, such as requiring clinical staff to wear specific colored uniforms/scrubs according to department guidelines, prohibiting artificial nails for patient-facing roles, and mandating that visible body piercings and tattoos be subtle or covered. Non-compliance can result in being required to leave work to address dress code violations, with potential disciplinary actions up to termination. The policy allows for accommodations due to religious or disability considerations and provides exceptions for special events or recognition days, while maintaining an overarching emphasis on professional appearance, hygiene, and safety in a healthcare setting.
