Leadership Development Program:
PHASE 3-Leading People
Learning Overview:
This course prepares upper grade Navy Civilian Leaders to lead others towards the mission, vision, and goals while thinking about strategic change, both within and outside the organization to meet organizational goals. Participants will learn how to cultivate an inclusive workplace through emotional intelligence that will help foster the development of others, facilitate cooperation, teamwork and supports constructive resolution of conflict. Participants will also learn and understand strategies and techniques for effective employee engagement through role-play, vignettes, and other instructional material.
Course Objectives:
As a result of this program, participants will:
· Understand the supervisor’s role in conflict management and develop strategies to constructively manage conflicts.
· Define and discuss Emotional Intelligence and be able to apply Emotional Intelligence skills in the workplace and in interpersonal interactions.
· Understand leadership principles and discuss the different approaches to leadership versus management.
· Understand strategies for developing high performing teams in complex settings.
· Learn and practice effective coaching and feedback techniques and be able to incorporate feedback into performance discussions for greater development opportunities.
· Identify personal strengths and areas for improvement and build a personalized plan for continued leadership growth.
· Develop skills to lead larger groups effectively, including learning to think and act strategically across the organization.
· Understand strategies and techniques for effective employee engagement.
· Explore differences in generational diversity in the workplace and how to leverage each generation’s strengths for more effective teams and working groups.
· Learn the impact of personal and organizational values in building high-performance teams and driving the best business outcomes.
