Leadership Development Program:

Phase 1-Introduction to Leadership

Learning Overview:

The Introduction to Leadership Course is for employees who want to gain skills in how to lead self and for employees who are contemplating a leadership position in the future. This course provides participants with a sense of what it takes to be an effective leader, which increases self-awareness as it relates to one's profession. Participants will understand team building, group dynamics, and effective written/oral communication; assess individual values and how they relate to professional ethics; understand how to manage professional advancement and leverage career potential.

Course Objectives:

As a result of this program, participants will:

· Be familiar with different leadership styles and theories, as well as understanding how the role of a leader is critical to organizational success. Identify and analyze behaviors leaders should model in the workplace and what effect these behaviors have on individual and team performance.

· Discuss and assess areas in which leaders are held accountable and relate that accountability to individual responsibilities and performance.

· Recognize and design different ways to communicate with those around you and above you, including formal and informal communication pathways.

· Gain a greater understanding of how personal behaviors and communication styles affect workplace interactions. Arrange appropriate communication styles to suit the situation and build skills through more effective collaboration.

· Develop knowledge and competency in diversity and inclusion principles and acquire tools to help encourage and improve diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

· Identify personal strengths and areas for improvement and build a personalized plan for continued leadership growth using the Leadership Challenge model. Utilize current Individual Development Plan framework to discuss continual development and growth.

· Gain a conscious understanding of character, behaviors, motives, and how these things impact leadership abilities.
