About this file
This is a specification document for natural cut stone masonry work. The document provides detailed technical requirements and standards for the installation and quality of natural stone masonry materials, including granite, marble, limestone, and sandstone used in construction projects. It establishes specifications for stone selection, preparation, mortar composition, joint treatment, and installation methods to ensure durability and aesthetic quality. The document references industry standards such as those from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC) to govern workmanship, material testing, and performance criteria. Specific requirements address stone dimensions, color consistency, surface finish, mortar strength ratings, joint width tolerances, and waterproofing considerations for both interior and exterior applications.
The specification emphasizes quality control measures including material inspection procedures, testing protocols for compressive strength and water absorption, and requirements for experienced masons and skilled labor. It covers details such as proper bedding of stones, grout fill requirements, curing time specifications, and surface sealing applications. The document serves as a technical guide for contractors bidding on the 608-20-101 Loop Road Phase One West project under solicitation 36C24126R0069_0007 with the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Integrated Service Network 1, ensuring that all stone masonry work meets federal standards and project specifications.
