About this file

This is a technical specification document for masonry grouting work, specifically Section 04 05 16 detailing requirements for grout used in filling hollow concrete masonry cores. The specification establishes material standards and performance requirements aligned with ASTM International standards, including ASTM C476 for grout composition, ASTM C404 for aggregate sizing, ASTM C150 for Portland cement Type I, ASTM C207 for hydrated lime Type S, and ASTM C595 for blended hydraulic cement Types IS and IP. All grout components must be sourced from a single manufacturer and production run to ensure consistency.

The specification mandates preconstruction testing by an independent laboratory to verify compressive strength per ASTM C1019, water-soluble alkali content for nonstaining cement, and aggregate quality including deleterious substances, organic impurities, soundness, and grading. Grout must be prepared in mechanically operated mixers for a minimum of five minutes with a slump range of 200-275 mm, and installation must follow Section 04 20 00 requirements with fine grout specified for hollow units with smallest cell dimensions of 50 mm or less, and either fine or coarse grout for larger cavities. All products require manufacturer's literature, test certifications, and compliance certificates as submittals for Contracting Officer's Representative review and approval. Materials must be delivered in sealed original packaging with legible markings indicating manufacturer name, type, production run number, and manufacture date, and stored under waterproof covers on planking to prevent damage from weather, dirt, and handling.
