UNSPSC 72154038: Airwave shielding installation for computer room service

The installation of airwave shielding in computer rooms owned by others

UNSPSC 72154038 Airwave shielding installation for computer room service is a Commodity code that nominally covers electromagnetic shielding work for IT infrastructure, but the recent state and local opportunities tagged under this code show little alignment with that scope. The DeKalb County ITB for reconstruction of the DeKalb Tennis Center (due July 13, 2026) calls for furnishing and installing IT and Low Voltage Infrastructure systems—conduit, pathways, cabling, terminations, and testing—coordinated with the county's Department of Innovation and Technology, work that falls under low-voltage infrastructure rather than airwave shielding specifically. The Santa Clara County ITB for AHU replacement at Valley Health Center (due July 9, 2026) involves mechanical equipment replacement, roof work, and electrical support—none of which involves computer room shielding. The remaining recent opportunities (office renovations, water reclamation jar testers, irrigation improvements, police academy construction, crime lab tenant improvement, school kitchen equipment, and historic house retrofit) are entirely unrelated to the code's stated scope. The code shows no recent activity substantively tied to electromagnetic shielding installation for computer facilities.

The recent-opportunity posting dates cluster in the first half of 2026, with issuing bodies spanning Georgia (DeKalb County, Gwinnett County, City of DeBary), California (Santa Clara County), and other states, but none of these solicitations involve airwave shielding work. Given the disconnect between the code's nominal definition and what state and local governments are actually buying under this classification, the code appears to be a poor indicator of current demand for shielding services or a placeholder tag applied by issuing offices without precise alignment to the work being procured.
