UNSPSC 52141608: Garment steamer

UNSPSC 52141608 Garment steamer is a Commodity code that in practice encompasses laundry equipment procurement by state and local agencies, though recent state and local solicitations under this code show minimal activity focused narrowly on garment steamers themselves. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has issued an IFB for single tumbler dryers — a related but distinct laundry appliance — suggesting that state procurement offices may use this code to classify broader institutional laundry equipment purchases beyond the code's nominal scope. State correctional facilities and other institutional operators drive demand for bulk laundry solutions, but the single recent opportunity in the dataset does not clarify whether garment steamers specifically are being acquired by state and local buyers or whether the code primarily reflects misclassification of related dryer and washing equipment.

Recent activity under this code is sparse. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice posted IFB IW250253 on April 30, 2026, for single tumbler dryers with a response deadline of May 18, 2026, with procurement inquiries directed to Daniela Castaneda at Daniela.castaneda2@tdcj.texas.gov or (936) 437-3885. The solicitation provided an 18-day bidding window and required electronic submission through the TDCJ Procurement Portal. No budget, award value, set-aside designation, incumbent vendor, or detailed specifications were disclosed in the posting. The lack of additional garment-steamer-specific opportunities in the recent state and local pipeline suggests limited current market demand under this code, or that institutional laundry procurement is being classified under alternate UNSPSC codes focused on dryers, washers, or general food-service and institutional equipment.
