RFI - Fisheye Night Sky Imager Housing Design and Build
The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking contractors to design and build an environmental housing for a fisheye night sky imager and develop a remote data transmission system through Request for Information (RFI) 140P2125R0016. The project aims to create a specialized enclosure for a ZWO ASI 6200 mono astronomy camera with a Sigma 8mm fisheye lens that can be deployed in remote national park locations. Contractors must demonstrate specialized skills in developing weatherproof housing with features like condensation prevention, modular mounting, AC power with battery backup, and cellular gateway communications. The RFI requires potential contractors to submit business information and a five-page capability statement highlighting their expertise relevant to the draft Statement of Work. Responses are due by January 16, 2025, with the government emphasizing that participation is voluntary and will not guarantee future solicitation or contract award.
The opportunity is not set aside for any specific business type, and contractors can respond under NAICS code 541620 for Environmental Consulting Services with various socioeconomic designations accepted. The base performance period is 12 months with three optional one-year extensions, and the primary deliverables include designing the environmental housing within 8 months and developing data transfer protocols within 6 months. Contractors will be expected to provide complete system documentation, ongoing technical support, and annual maintenance of communication pathways. The project will result in a firm fixed-price contract, with final delivery and testing to occur in Fort Collins, Colorado. While no specific budget range is disclosed, the complexity of the technical requirements suggests this will be a sophisticated and potentially high-value procurement focused on advancing the NPS's night sky monitoring capabilities.
