About The Global Alliance For Improved Nutrition

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched in 2002 to address malnutrition globally. GAIN works with governments, businesses, and civil society to transform food systems and support healthier diets. Through federal grants, GAIN conducts nutrition-related research and programming.

GAIN received a $38 million cooperative agreement from USAID in 2019 to implement a 5-year nutrition activity in Ethiopia focused on stimulating consumer demand for safe, nutritious foods. GAIN also partners on USAID-funded nutrition research projects as a subawardee to Tufts University and Catholic Relief Services. These projects aim to better understand the causes of acute malnutrition and design multi-sectoral approaches to sustainably reduce it. Additionally, GAIN is a core partner on a $30 million, 5-year USAID nutrition project led by ADPP in Mozambique that empowers communities to improve health and nutrition outcomes related to sanitation, hygiene, dietary practices, and food access for pregnant and lactating women, adolescents, and young children. Through these prime and subawards, GAIN provides research, capacity building, behavior change interventions, multi-sectoral nutrition programming, and support to public-private engagement.
