About the company

National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), doing business as Nrcri, is a foreign government entity registered in SAM.gov since 2010 to receive awards from the U.S. federal government. NRCRI has a mandate for the genetic improvement of root and tuber crops including potato and cassava.

Through past federal grants, NRCRI has conducted confined field trials and stewardship activities related to transgenic potato and cassava crops. This includes obtaining permits, developing standard operating procedures, importing and exporting transgenic materials, conducting multi-location and multi-season field trials, collecting data for regulatory approval, and establishing seed systems. NRCRI has partnered as a subawardee with Michigan State University, Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Cornell University, and other organizations on agriculture grants related to biotechnology, disease resistance, and agronomic performance of genetically engineered crops. Specific activities have included assessing late blight resistance of transgenic potato events, pursuing regulatory approvals and representing projects before Nigerian regulatory authorities, supporting communications efforts to prepare stakeholders for testing and adoption of biotechnology products, and upgrading facilities to support transgenic crop research in coordination with prime grantees.
