About the company
National Capital Poison Center is an independent, private, not-for-profit organization that provides 24/7 telephone guidance for poison emergencies as well as online guidance through webPOISONCONTROL. It has received one prime federal grant award from the Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration for $80,284 to provide funding related to the CARES act for poison control centers. This was a project grant to expand capacity and infrastructure to support poison control activities from April 2020 through March 2021.
National Capital Poison Center has also received several federal sub-grants from the Government of the District of Columbia. These sub-grants were funded through the Public Health Emergency Hospital Preparedness Program and allowed National Capital Poison Center to provide counseling, education and support for all poisoned patients in Washington D.C. The sub-grants also enabled healthcare providers in D.C. to receive medical guidance for poisonings as well as education for opioid misuse and addiction prevention. Additionally, the sub-grants allowed National Capital Poison Center to expand the web-based case reporting system, particularly related to guideline development for opioid exposures. Finally, the sub-grants enabled National Capital Poison Center to expand injury prevention education by examining the creation and current state of the opioid epidemic and its impact on different populations.
