About the company
Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group is a non-profit organization focused on fisheries enhancement and watershed protection services. Through federal grants, primarily from the Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Department of Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service, it has provided environmental education, monitoring, outreach and coordination for watershed and marine sanctuary stewardship. It has also conducted riparian restoration projects along waterways in Washington state to plant vegetation, reduce erosion, improve instream habitat, reduce water temperature, and exclude livestock from sensitive areas. These habitat restoration efforts have been supported through prime and sub awards from NOAA's Marine Sanctuary program and Fish and Wildlife Service grants, often administered through the State of Washington or the Recreation and Conservation Office. Partners have included the Yakama Nation, National Forest Foundation, and local school districts. The projects aim to aid recovery of threatened salmon and steelhead species like Mid-Columbia Steelhead and benefit essential habitat for Chinook and Coho salmon.
