About American Indian Cancer Foundation

The American Indian Cancer Foundation (AICAF) is a national, Native governed organization dedicated to building stronger Native Nations by increasing access to cancer prevention, education, early detection, treatment, and survivor support across Indigenous communities. It is a non-profit, minority and woman owned corporate entity registered to receive federal awards.

AICAF has received significant federal grant funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support cancer control efforts in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. This includes a $750,000 Cooperative Agreement under the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program to promote physical activity, nutrition, and reduce commercial tobacco use through partnerships with the Oklahoma City Indian Clinic and others in Oklahoma County and surrounding areas. AICAF also received over $4 million through another CDC Cooperative Agreement to continue implementing the Screen Our Circle breast and cervical cancer screening program and the Indigenous Cancer Solutions comprehensive cancer control program, focused on the Indian Health Service Nashville region spanning 36 Tribal Nations. AICAF partners with Tribal clinics and programs to increase cancer screening rates, expand data sovereignty, implement evidence-based interventions, and ultimately reduce cancer disparities in a culturally responsive manner. Additionally, AICAF has received a sub-award from the University of Minnesota to pilot understanding barriers to lung cancer screening for a Minnesota Tribal clinic.
