Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program for Professionals
The Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) Program for Professionals, funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) within the Department of Health and Human Services, aims to increase the supply of behavioral health professionals and improve the distribution of a quality behavioral health workforce. The program has a special focus on serving children, adolescents, and transitional-aged youth at risk for behavioral health disorders. Eligible applicants include accredited institutions of higher education, accredited professional training programs, and academic-clinical partnerships/consortia. Key requirements include providing stipends to trainees for 6-12 months (or 24 months for part-time) of final experiential training, implementing interprofessional team-based training models, and integrating behavioral health in primary care settings. Applications are due on January 21, 2025. The total expected funding for this opportunity is $59.6 million in FY 2025, with approximately 101 grants ranging up to $600,000 annually for a 4-year period from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2029. Funding priority will be given to programs demonstrating the ability to train psychology, psychiatry, and social work professionals in integrated care settings, and special consideration will be given to historically black colleges/universities and minority-serving institutions.
