About this opportunity

The Opioid-Impacted Family Support Program, a grant opportunity from the Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), aims to support training programs that enhance and expand the knowledge, skills, and expertise of paraprofessionals, including peer support specialists, who work on integrated, interprofessional teams providing services to children whose parents are impacted by opioid use disorders and other substance use disorders, as well as their family members in guardianship roles. Eligible applicants include independent school districts, county governments, small businesses, higher education institutions (private and public), for-profit organizations, tribal organizations, city/township governments, special district governments, state governments, non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, and 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The program will give special consideration to proposals addressing the needs of underserved areas in each of the ten HHS regions. Applicants must report on performance measures and participate in a federal evaluation of program outcomes. The application deadline is May 6, 2024.

Anticipated awards of up to $600,000 over four years will support the recruitment and training of paraprofessionals through an integrated curriculum of classroom and experiential learning, as well as partnerships with registered apprenticeship programs for on-the-job experience serving high-need communities. The program is funded under the Mental and Behavioral Health Education and Training Grants (CFDA 93.732), which aims to develop and expand the behavioral health workforce.

Synopsis

This program's purpose is to support training programs that enhance and expand paraprofessionals knowledge and expertise, and to increase the number of peer support specialists and other behavioral health-related paraprofessionals who work on integrated, interprofessional teams in providing services to families impacted by OUD and other SUD. A special focus is on supporting children and adolescents in high need and high demand areas who have experienced trauma and are at risk for mental health disorders.
