About this program
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is funding technical assistance, implementation, and evaluation of tuberculosis prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies in high-burden countries, with the most recent cooperative agreement awarded September 30, 2024 (CFDA 93.494).
The program supports global TB control efforts aligned with the WHO End TB Strategy and STOP TB Partnership's Global Plan to End TB (2023–2030), with activities spanning the continuum of Find, Cure, Prevent, and Sustain. Funded projects implement evidence-based and innovative approaches including active case finding and scaled deployment of novel TB diagnostic tools, TB preventive treatment (TPT) expansion to at-risk populations, introduction of new TB vaccines, infection prevention and control capacity building, and implementation of novel and shorter TB treatment regimens. Work targets groups at elevated TB risk: household contacts of TB patients, children and adolescents, people living with HIV, healthcare workers, migrants, mobile and displaced populations, and those in congregate settings such as prisons and mines. Recent awards have also incorporated technical assistance to national TB programs, capacity strengthening in data management and surveillance systems, and integration of HIV-TB services.
The program operates exclusively as cooperative agreements. Portfolio activity is limited: two awards totaling $13.9 million in combined federal obligations were disbursed in the past two years (one in fiscal 2023, one in fiscal 2024). The CDC is the sole funding agency. Recent representative awards include a $9,626,749 cooperative agreement to PATH for technical assistance services supporting national TB programs in India, Tanzania, and Zambia through September 2028, and a $4.3 million cooperative agreement to the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease for evidence-to-practice transformation in resource-limited countries through September 2029.
Multiple grant opportunities are currently open. CDC-RFA-JG-26-0125, posted October 1, 2025, solicits applications to strengthen TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance in Asia (specifically India, the Philippines, and Vietnam) with $3 million in approximate Year 1 funding available; applications are due June 22, 2026. CDC-RFA-JG-26-0142, also posted October 1, 2025, supports accelerated HIV and TB response in India with $6 million in approximate Year 1 funding; applications are due September 16, 2026. Earlier unfilled opportunities include RFA-JG-25-137 (due March 3, 2025) soliciting evidence-based TB prevention and case-finding approaches, and CDC-RFA-JG-25-0073 (due March 5, 2025) providing technical assistance to Eswatini's Ministry of Health with $3.5 million in approximate Year 1 funding. Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, tribal entities, and small businesses.
Cooperative agreement periods of performance run one to five years with initial funding typically covering a 12-month budget period. Continuation awards after the initial period may be made non-competitively if progress is satisfactory and funds remain available.

Initial awards provide funds for the first budget period (usually 12 months) and the NoA will indicate support recommended for the remainder of the project period, allocation of Federal funds by budget categories, award requirements, and special conditions, if any.
- Renewals
Cooperative agreement period of performance is 1 to 5 years. After initial awards, and subject to availability of funds, projects may be continued non-competitively contingent upon satisfactory progress by the recipient (as documented in required reports) and the determination that continued funding is in the best interest of the Federal government.
