About this opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking applications for cooperative agreements to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative approaches to tuberculosis (TB) prevention and case finding under two thematic components. Component A focuses on halting TB disease progression through TB preventive treatment and nutrition strategies, while Component B aims to improve case finding and understanding of the TB disease spectrum using newer diagnostic tools. Key requirements include strengthening local research capacity, addressing high-risk populations like people living with HIV, and translating findings into public health practice. The evaluation criteria will emphasize evidence-based and innovative approaches as well as collaboration and data management. Applications are due by March 3, 2025, with an optional letter of intent due on February 3, 2025.

The CDC anticipates awarding up to two cooperative agreements, one per thematic component, with total funding of $10 million over 5 years. Individual awards will range from $0 to $1 million per year, with priority given to work conducted in CDC's designated Global TB priority countries. The project period is scheduled to run from September 30, 2025 to September 29, 2030.

Update #3 · Latest ·

The purpose of this NOFO is to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based and innovative approaches under the following two thematic components: Component A - Prevent TB infection and halt progression of TB disease in high-burden settings - with a focus on the following two strategies: TB preventive treatment (TPT) and nutrition; and Component B - Find TB infection and TB disease, including sub-clinical TB, using newer tools and products - in all populations including those at increased/higher risk for TB (i.e., PLHIV, children, displaced persons, healthcare workers, economically disadvantaged persons with other co-morbid conditions [alcohol use disorders, diabetes mellitus, persons who use illicit substances, undernourished], and older adults).

Update #2 ·

This is a published notice (modification) to the NOFO. The NOFO modification revises the use of the term "sub-clinical TB" and "subclinical TB" to "asymptomatic TB" throughout the document, to align with the World Health Organization Global TB Report 2024. In addition, a Questions and Answers supporting document was uploaded to grants.gov. - The purpose of this NOFO is to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based and innovative approaches under the following two thematic components: Component A - Prevent TB infection and halt progression of TB disease in high-burden settings - with a focus on the following two strategies: TB preventive treatment (TPT) and nutrition; and Component B - Find TB infection and TB disease, including sub-clinical TB, using newer tools and products - in all populations including those at increased/higher risk for TB (i.e., PLHIV, children, displaced persons, healthcare workers, economically disadvantaged persons with other co-morbid conditions [alcohol use disorders, diabetes mellitus, persons who use illicit substances, undernourished], and older adults).
