About this program
The Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration is awarding grants under the National Farmworker Jobs Program (CFDA 17.264), with the most recent grant awards dated July 1, 2025.
The program funds career services, training, youth services, housing assistance, and related support for eligible migrant and seasonal farmworkers (ages 18 and older) and their dependents (ages 14–24 for youth). Services are delivered through case management emphasizing customer choice, including basic and individualized career services; training services that do not require prior career services participation; youth workforce investment activities; and related assistance such as short-term allowance payments and emergency or temporary housing support. Housing grantees provide direct payments for emergency and temporary housing, and support housing development to improve living conditions in underserved farmworker communities, with Congress requiring that not less than 70 percent of housing funding support permanent housing.
The portfolio spans three decades, with 1,250 total awards since 1995. Awards occur on a predictable annual schedule, averaging 62–68 awards per year over the past five years. The most recent award tranche dates to July 1, 2025. Federal awards total $2.13 billion obligated, with a combined federal and non-federal obligated total of $2.23 billion, indicating a $100 million non-federal cost-share contribution from recipients. The program is predominantly Project Grants (67 percent), with a significant share of Formula Grants (32 percent) and a minimal share of Cooperative Agreements (1 percent). The Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration dominates, accounting for 1,208 awards and $2.01 billion in federal dollars obligated (96 percent concentration). A second Department of Labor funding source contributed 42 awards and $116.6 million.
Recent awards illustrate the range of activity. A July 2025 Project Grant (25A60AC000164) to strengthen MSFW employment and stabilize agricultural work obligated $5.71 million. Two housing-focused grants in the same tranche—Project Grants 25A60MH000018 and 25A60MH000022—each obligated approximately $1.32 million to deliver safe and sanitary housing solutions addressing homelessness and improving housing safety standards. A May 2025 award (24A60AC000065) for employment and training obligated $14.69 million. Grant awards range widely, from $50 thousand for targeted youth enhancement initiatives to over $14.6 million for comprehensive state-level career services and training operations.
Program Year 2026 opportunities for Career Services and Training, Housing Services, and Youth Services closed on June 20, 2026 (TEGL-ETA-PY26-AC, TEGL-ETA-PY26-MH, TEGL-ETA-PY26-MY). These are instructions to existing grantees for allotment submission and performance negotiations rather than new-applicant competitions. No competitive opportunities are currently posted. The program conducted a four-year competition cycle most recently in 2024 (FOA-ETA-24-15 for Career Services and Training, closed May 3, 2024; FOA-ETA-24-18 for Housing, closed June 28, 2024). Applicants must demonstrate understanding of migrant and seasonal farmworker challenges, familiarity with the agricultural labor market in their service area, and capacity to deliver diversified workforce activities. Grantees must maintain complete accounting, personnel, and participant records under the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Parts 200 and 2900). The period of performance is 51 months, and competitions for state service areas occur every four years.
