The National September 11 Memorial And Museum at the World Trade Center received a $8,000,000 Project Grant on September 11, 2024 from the National Park Service's 9/11 Memorial Act Grant Program (CFDA 15.964) to support the continued operation, security, and maintenance of the 9/11 memorial site. The grant funding will enable the organization to provide public programming, educational initiatives, and artifact preservation related to commemorating the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The memorial and museum serve as a powerful reminder of 9/11 and honor those who lost their lives. The organization has also received additional federal grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities to expand digital programs and teacher training resources about 9/11 history. As a sub-grantee, the museum received funds through the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services for sanitization and protection measures.

THE FY 2023 GRANT AWARDED UNDER THIS PROGRAM FULFILLS THE MISSION THROUGH COMMEMORATION, EXHIBITIONS, AND EDUCATION.

9/11 Memorial Act Grant
The 9/11 Memorial Act Grant Program, administered by the Department of the Interior National Park Service, provides competitive grants to support the continued operation, security, and maintenance of memorials located in the United States that commemorate the events and victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Eligible applicants are organizations described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code that own and/or operate a qualifying memorial. Key requirements include offering free admission to active and retired military members, 9/11 first responders, and victims' family members, as well as providing free admission hours for the general public at least once per week. The application deadline is July 12, 2024. The total estimated funding available is $4 million, with expected individual awards ranging from $100,000 to $400,000. The grant period of performance is anticipated to be from August 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025, and applicants must provide at least a 1-to-1 match of non-Federal funds.

The 9/11 Memorial Act Grant Program provides competitive grants for the continued operation, security, and maintenance of the on-site memorials of the events and victims of the September 11, 2001. For the purposes of this grant, these on-site memorials are referred to as "covered memorials". A "covered memorial" is defined as a memorial located in the United States established to commemorate the events of, and honor the victims of, the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, at the sites of the attacks. In addition, covered memorials must offer free admission to active and retired members of the military, registered first responders to the 9/11 attacks, and family members of victims of the attacks as well as offer free admission hours to the general public at least once per week.
