The U.S. Geological Survey awarded a $375,159 Cooperative Agreement to The Regents of the University of Colorado, under the National and Regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers (CFDA 15.820) program, to explore management practices that enhance carbon storage and biodiversity. The two-year project will identify areas that have undergone ecosystem transformation, quantify changes in carbon storage, and identify management practices that provide co-benefits such as increased carbon storage, native plant diversity, and ecosystem resilience. Key deliverables include workshop infographics, management-focused summaries, a joint workshop report, and scientific publications. The results aim to help agencies adapt management plans to better address climate change impacts, including from invasive species and wildfire, and restore carbon storage in forests and shrublands across the North Central region.
