About this opportunity
This notice from the U.S. Geological Survey seeks proposals to host two new Climate Adaptation Science Centers under the National and Regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers federal grant program. Eligible applicants include state and local governments, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations proposing to conduct climate adaptation research, outreach and partnership activities within designated regions of the North Central and Southwest United States. Proposals are due February 1, 2024 and will be evaluated based on the applicant's proposed science, partnership and program support strategies. Successful applicants will receive five-year cooperative agreements providing $7.4 million in annual base funding to serve as host institutions conducting additional projects through subawards to consortium partners. Supplemental funding of up to 20% of program budgets may also be available contingent on federal appropriations and performance.
Awardees will be expected to perform work within the geographic footprints of the North Central and Southwest regions as defined in Attachment A of the solicitation. As host institutions, awardees will receive sole eligibility for follow-on research and science project funding to address high-level climate science focus areas described in Attachment C of the solicitation. Subawards administered by hosts may provide additional support to other institutions engaged as consortium partners in individual projects.
Synopsis
Purpose of this Announcement:1. The geographic footprints for potential hosts of these CASCs are indicated in the map in Attachment A. The high-level climate science focus areas anticipated for these CASCs are described in Attachment C.2. Once selected, the recipient will be established as the Host Institution for the respective regional CASC.
