The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 8 awarded a $350,000 cooperative agreement to the Nevada Department of Wildlife on July 15, 2021 with a completion date of June 30, 2026 under the Adaptive Science federal grant program (CFDA 15.670). The award supports efforts to treat invasive species and restore native plant communities in Nevada through 2026. A subaward of $150,000 to the Nevada Department of Agriculture supports the Foundation Seed Program to increase the availability of native seed for restoration purposes. A second subaward of $100,000 to the University of Nevada, Reno will develop methods to recover self-sustaining native plant communities after invasive species treatment and improve rangeland conditions across watersheds degraded by invasive grasses. The activities under this cooperative agreement directly address goals of the Nevada Invasives Treatment and Restoration Initiative to identify innovative restoration approaches through collaborative partnerships between federal, state, and industry stakeholders.
