About this opportunity

The Butts County Board of Commissioners solicited proposals for a turnkey UHF simulcast 6 Channel/Frequencies trunking radio system under RFP #23-16, with proposals due September 7, 2023. Baker's Communications was awarded the contract on October 25, 2023.

The system serves four transmission sites: Southern Crescent Technical College (150 feet), two water towers at 125 feet each (Jackson Lake Inn Road and Butts Water Tower), and a leased tower in Jasper County (90 feet). The county currently operates a 4-site microwave system connecting SCTC, E-911 dispatch, Jackson Lake Inn Road Water Tower, and Highway 16 West Water Tower. The new system must provide reliable coverage in areas of concern, particularly near the lake and interstate regions experiencing significant industrial growth with warehouse development. Current environmental challenges include clear morning conditions but significant afternoon static interference.

The RFP explicitly permitted alternative technical solutions and approaches beyond the specified UHF configuration if vendors could demonstrate superior functionality and reliability. The scope encompassed design, development, installation, testing, and ongoing service. All addendum acknowledgments required documentation on the Bid Documents Checklist; failure to acknowledge receipt triggered non-responsive bid determination.

No contract term duration, estimated value, set-asides, incumbent details, or pricing terms are stated in the available documents.
