About this opportunity
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is soliciting proposals for the Sun and Soil Program (PON 6206) to support agrivoltaic and solar-energy projects that integrate renewable generation with active agriculture, with proposals due December 10, 2026.
The program funds planning, feasibility assessment, initial preparation, implementation, and scaling phases across three eligible project categories. Planning and feasibility phases support agrivoltaic projects for on-farm power consumption and grid export, as well as standalone solar and battery-storage systems for on-farm energy use. Implementation and scaling phases target projects that advance innovation through new or adapted technologies, novel configurations or retrofits, agricultural operations or regions where agrivoltaics adoption remains limited, and applied research or market solutions addressing barriers to solar-agriculture integration. Capacity-building initiatives and training efforts addressing integration challenges are eligible across phases.
Eligible proposers include farmers, agricultural communities, supporting organizations, and businesses. The source does not specify a contract value, estimated award amount, term length, or evaluation criteria. Questions deadline and pre-proposal meeting details are not identified. The solicitation will be updated on NYSERDA's website if changes occur.

Program Opportunity Notice (PON 6206) is designed to help farmers, communities, supporting organizations, and businesses readily adopt and adapt integrations of solar energy in ways that sustain agriculture. PON 6206 supports the planning and implementation of innovative agrivoltaic projects including those that integrate battery storage for on-farm energy use,and applied research and problem-solving efforts to address market challenges, maximizes opportunities, and build capacity. Eligible proposals for planning, feasibility assessments and initial preparation phase projects include both agrivoltaics projects for on-farmpowering and those that export some or all solar production to the electrical grid, as well as solar energy and battery storage for on-farm energy projects. Eligible proposals for implementation and scaling phases include:Those that advance innovation in New York State by utilizing new or adapted technologies, equipment, or agricultural practices, Novel configurations or retrofits, Agricultural operations or regions in instances where agrivoltaics has not yet been commonly applied. Applied research, market solutions, guidance, training and/or other solutions to address barriers and challenges, capacity building and increased opportunities for integrating solar and active agriculture. If changes are made to this solicitation notification will be posted on NYSERDA's website at:www.nyserda.ny.gov/funding-opportunities Eligibility/Qualifications Requirements/Preferences: Eligible proposals include both agrivoltaics projects for on-farm powering and those that export a portion or the entirety of solar production to the electrical grid, as well as solar energy and battery storage for on-farm energy projects. Projects for retrofitting previously constructed solar energy projects for agrivoltaics with or without on-farm powering are also eligible. Planning, feasibility and preparation funds are available for solar energy and battery storage as well as agrivoltaics, but implementation and scaling funds are only available for projects that also involve or support agrivoltaics. The successful proposers must have a project team that can demonstrate the necessary technical, operations, and administrative experience needed for successfully completing this project as well as the depth of personnel available to perform important tasks outlined in the PON.
