About this opportunity
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking a Small Business Minor B contractor to reset the life cycle of traffic monitoring stations along State Highway Route 8 in San Diego County. The project specifically involves replacing traffic monitoring system components at four TMS Stations (378, 377, 11108, and 11109), which includes removing existing controller cabinets and installing new Department-furnished 2070E controllers, Model 222 loop detector sensor cards, and related equipment. Contractors must have either a Class A or applicable Class C license and be prepared to complete the work within 150 working days. The project requires detailed equipment installation, cable management, and labeling of system components, with potential reuse of existing fiber optic cables, conduits, and foundations. The solicitation was posted on May 7, 2025, with proposals due by May 14, 2025, and the estimated project cost is $130,000.00. Bid submissions must be made via email to tammy.p.tran@dot.ca.gov, and any bid exceeding $461,000 will be automatically rejected.
This contract opportunity is exclusively reserved for Certified Small Businesses, with no specific Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE) contract goal, though DVBE participation is encouraged. Successful bidders will be required to submit various forms including a Subcontractor List, Small Business Status form, and California Civil Rights Laws Certification. Payment bonds and insurance will be mandatory for the low bidder upon contract award. The project involves installing traffic monitoring system components that will require precise technical integration with existing infrastructure, ensuring minimal disruption to current traffic monitoring capabilities. Potential contractors should note that they will be subject to accountability measures, including potential default listing if they fail to execute the contract or perform work satisfactorily. The contract documents are currently not fully digitally accessible, with interested parties advised to request an accessible version through the provided contact methods.
