The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is soliciting bids for Contract No. 61L85, a bridge replacement and roadway improvement project on Route CH 27A (Johnson Road) in McHenry County, with electronic bids due September 18, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. to the iCX system.

The scope encompasses full removal of an existing two-span precast concrete box beam bridge (SN 056-3128) over Nippersink Creek and replacement with a new two-span bridge (SN 056-3104) featuring an 8-inch concrete deck on IL 36-inch PPC IL beams. Associated work includes removal of superstructure, substructure, piers, abutments, and existing pavement; new integral abutments on 14 HP piles; solid wall encased piles bent pier; full-depth hot-mix asphalt pavement and shoulder replacement and widening over a project length of 1,275 feet (0.241 miles); hot-mix asphalt driveways; steel plate beam guardrails; tree removal and protection; temporary and permanent erosion control; seeding for landscaping; and pavement markings. Quality control and assurance for HMA mixtures include Hamburg wheel testing and I-FIT testing for High ESAL mixtures. Utility relocations by ComEd and Frontier Communications are required during a 49-day pre-stage period, with contractor responsibility for coordination and integration into the progress schedule.

The contract term extends to October 30, 2027 (11:59 p.m.), with an allowance of 10 working days for cleanup and punch-list work. Bridge closure and removal of the existing structure cannot occur prior to March 15, 2027. Tree removal is restricted from April 1 through October 11 annually. The project is funded through state Construction Funds and subject to federal-aid construction contract requirements. An Engineer's Field Office Type A (Modified) will oversee the work. The contract will be awarded to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder under IDOT standard specifications and special provisions effective January 1, 2026.
