About this opportunity

The City of Alpharetta issued RFP 26-106 for a Drones as First Responders Program (Proof of Concept), originally posted on October 31, 2025, with a response deadline of December 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM. This procurement sought qualified vendors to implement and manage a one-year proof of concept drone-based first response initiative with options to extend annually for up to four additional years (Years 2-5), subject to satisfactory performance, funding availability, demonstrated program impact, and City Council approval. The program aimed to enhance public safety operations across the City of Alpharetta's police, fire, emergency management, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) departments by demonstrating the viability, scalability, and operational value of drone-based first response capabilities. The selected vendor was responsible for establishing operational protocols, integrating drone technology into existing first responder workflows, and providing evidence of program effectiveness through measurable outcomes. Key evaluation criteria included vendor experience with drone deployment in public safety contexts, technical capabilities, cost-effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and ability to support multi-departmental coordination. However, the City of Alpharetta cancelled this RFP on January 22, 2026, prior to contract award to reassess program scope, technical requirements, and regulatory considerations.

The RFP notice did not specify set-aside designations or restrictions on respondent eligibility based on business size or disadvantaged enterprise status. No incumbent vendors or current drone service contractors were identified in the cancellation documentation. The solicitation did not include a disclosed budget range or estimated contract value. The City's decision to cancel RFP 26-106 was undertaken to ensure stronger alignment with operational needs, budget constraints, and evolving industry standards. The City intends to refine its approach and potentially reissue the solicitation with clearer requirements and improved competitiveness. Inquiries regarding the cancellation should be directed to Procurement Agent Debora Westbrook at dwestbrook@alpharetta.ga.us or 678-297-6050, or to the City of Alpharetta Finance Department at purchasing@alpharetta.ga.us.
