About this opportunity
California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) and Whiting-Turner Contracting Company are conducting a prequalification process for trade contractors to participate in the Cal Poly Student Housing Program. The procurement focuses on five specific trade scopes: acoustic treatment, partitions & accessories, kitchen appliances, asphalt paving & markings, and fencing & gates. The comprehensive housing program, outlined in the 2035 Master Plan, aims to develop nearly 15,000 student housing beds through three new construction projects and six renovation projects across North Mountain and K-2 parking sites. Interested trade contractors must complete a TradeTapp submission, California State University Trade Contractor Prequalification Questionnaire, and BuildingConnected Bid Form by May 30, 2025, at 5:00 PM PT. The prequalification period opened on May 16, 2025, with a future Request for Proposal (RFP) to be issued to prequalified contractors. Contractors will be evaluated based on their capability to execute specific trade scopes and meet the project's technical requirements, with the project subject to Prevailing Wage Rates.
The procurement does not explicitly indicate specific set-aside designations or restrictions for disadvantaged enterprises. Preliminary design-build cost estimates range from $175 million to $275 million for new housing projects and $24 million to $31 million for renovation projects. The phased approach is strategically designed to minimize disruption to campus life, with project design commencing in January 2024. No incumbent vendors are specifically mentioned in the documentation. The project will integrate new construction and renovation efforts across multiple campus sites, focusing on housing for first and second-year students, as well as transfer and returning upper-division students. While specific integration requirements are not detailed, the project emphasizes a comprehensive approach to expanding and improving student housing infrastructure at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
