About this opportunity
The City of Wichita Public Works & Utilities Department is requesting bids for mechanical screening of street sweepings and finished compost at Brooks Landfill, with sealed bids due electronically by 10:00 a.m. on August 14, 2026, and a tentative City Council approval date of August 25, 2026.
The scope requires screening approximately 12,000 cubic yards of accumulated street sweepings and compost initially, followed by ongoing quarterly screening of approximately 3,000 cubic yards of street sweepings and 1,000 cubic yards of finished compost per quarter (16,000 cubic yards annually). Street sweepings must be screened through a 1.5-inch screen; finished compost through a half-inch screen. Screening must commence within two weeks of contract execution for initial materials and within three weeks of notification for subsequent quarterly work. All work occurs during normal Brooks Landfill operating hours (7:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–noon Saturday, closed Sundays and city holidays). The vendor must own and maintain all equipment in good to excellent condition, manage all screened-waste removal and disposal at licensed municipal solid waste facilities, and hold workers' compensation insurance, commercial general liability insurance ($1,000,000 each occurrence/$2,000,000 aggregate), comprehensive automobile liability insurance ($1,000,000 each occurrence), and employers' liability insurance ($1,000,000 each accident). No subcontracting is permitted.
Vendors must demonstrate three years of experience in similar services and current registration with the Kansas Secretary of State. Pricing is submitted on a cost-per-cubic-yard basis for screening and a cost-per-ton basis for removal and disposal, with all costs inclusive of labor, equipment, mobilization, and disposal fees. The contract term is one year with four optional one-year renewal periods, subject to mutual agreement. Invoices are due within thirty days of service completion; payment terms are Net 30 (or Net 15 for Small and Emerging Business Enterprises). The project is tax-exempt. Questions are due by 5:00 p.m. on August 7, 2026, with answers posted as an addendum by August 11, 2026.
