About this opportunity
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is soliciting services for woody vegetation control follow-up work at Iroquois County State Wildlife Area, with proposals due June 30, 2026. The scope encompasses retreatment of aspen resprouts, girdling and chemical treatment of larger trees (greater than 5 inches diameter at breast height), and basal barking of smaller diameter stems across approximately 900 acres of sedge meadow, continuing work initiated in Fall 2024. Target tree species include aspen, pin oak, silver maple, eastern cottonwood, and river birch. Work is organized into four prioritized tasks using specified herbicide applications: 20% Garlon 4 solution applied by paint roller for aspen resprouts; 50% Rodeo or Roundup Custom solution for girdled trees (applied within 15 minutes of girdling); and basal bark treatments in designated areas.
Vendors must document owner or primary field contact experience with at least one reference project from sites containing endangered and threatened species, areas listed on the Illinois Natural Areas Inventory for high floristic quality, dedicated Nature Preserves, or registered Land and Water Reserves. Reference documentation must include project name, location, native plant community type, land use type, acreage, work completed, and completion date. Vendors may substitute primary field contact personnel and onsite workers at time of work provided substitutes meet specified experience qualifications.
The standard Illinois General Services terms apply, including $1,000,000 per occurrence/$2,000,000 annual aggregate commercial liability insurance with the State named as additionally insured, workers' compensation insurance as required by law, and prevailing wage compliance where applicable. Vendors must certify accuracy of financial disclosures and conflicts of interest at contract execution. The contract is subject to Illinois General Assembly appropriation and contingent upon funding availability.
