About this opportunity
The City of Wichita is requesting sealed bids from fire protection contractors for comprehensive fire sprinkler systems testing and modifications across 43 municipal facilities, with bids due October 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. CT. Bidders must hold NICET II certification and a Wichita business license — the primary capability gate.
The scope encompasses testing, inspection, and certification of fire sprinkler systems at libraries, parking garages, fire stations, administrative buildings, airport facilities, museums, and parks facilities in compliance with NFPA Standards 20 and 25 and City of Wichita Code Section 15.01.080. System types include wet, dry, standpipe, pre-action, and clean-agent data room configurations. Deliverables include detailed inspection reports identifying deficiencies and repair quotes for City determination. All labor, materials, equipment, permits, and fees are the contractor's responsibility. Site visits are mandatory prior to bid submission.
The contract term is one year with two optional one-year renewals available by mutual agreement. All work must be completed within 120 days of purchase order receipt, with liquidated damages of $100 per day for delays. Award will be based on the lowest and best total net base bid including optional line items: lift equipment cost per day, hourly labor rates for normal business hours, after-hours, weekend and holiday service calls, and percentage markup on materials for repairs.
Contractors must provide general liability insurance with minimum $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate limits; automobile liability; workers' compensation; and employers' liability coverage, with the City named as primary and non-contributory additional insured. Questions are due October 2, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. CT, with addendum responses posted by October 6. City Council approval is anticipated in October 2026.
