About this opportunity

Greenville Public Schools in Greenville, Michigan is soliciting sealed bids for complete fire alarm system replacement at Cedar Crest, Walnut Hills, and Baldwin Heights Elementary Schools, with bids due October 28, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the district administration office. The solicitation is listed under Macomb County, Michigan. Fritz Wahlfield Construction Co., Inc. serves as construction manager and bid contact, and Kingscott Associates Inc. is the architect.

The scope covers demolition of existing fire alarm panels, devices, and cabling, followed by a voice-capable, addressable system with manual and automatic initiation. Devices include smoke and heat detectors, pull stations, notification appliances, magnetic door hold-opens, duct detectors, and a new control panel. The system must integrate with kitchen hood fire suppression, HVAC shutdown and smoke dampers, and building lighting controls, and it must comply with NFPA 72, the Michigan Electrical Code, and the National Electrical Code. Smoke detection in spaces outside early childhood areas is a mandatory alternate at each school, priced separately. Addendum 01 approved National Time and Signal, Honeywell Notifier, and Siemens as acceptable voluntary alternate manufacturers.

Bidders must have a minimum of ten years' experience under their current company name, maintain active Michigan licensing and insurance, and demonstrate adequate financial resources. A 5% bid bond accompanies each bid. The successful bidder must furnish a Performance, Labor, and Material bond for 100% of contract value from an A-rated surety. Bids require sworn, notarized familial disclosure statements and Iran Economic Sanctions Act affidavits. The project is not a prevailing wage project, and bids remain valid for 60 days from opening. Additional work carries a 10% fee on contractor-performed work and a 5% fee on subcontractor work, both including overhead and profit. Required insurance includes $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 general aggregate commercial general liability.

Work is phased over three summers: Cedar Crest from June 5 to August 9, 2027; Walnut Hills from June 3 to August 7, 2028; and Baldwin Heights from June 2 to August 6, 2029. Pre-bid walkthroughs were held October 15, 2026, and the RFI deadline of October 19, 2026 has passed. Mandatory post-bid interviews are scheduled for October 30, 2026. Bid documents are available through Procore and the West Michigan Builders Exchange. Bidders confirm intent to bid with amanda@wahlfieldconstruction.com, and questions route to Fritz Wahlfield III at (616) 784-5833 or f3@wahlfieldconstruction.com.
