About this opportunity

The County of Greenville is requesting proposals on behalf of the Tigerville Fire Department for the design, permitting, installation, testing, and acceptance of a new automatic fire sprinkler system and complete fire alarm system in an existing two-story fire station, with proposals due September 4, 2026, and a mandatory pre-proposal meeting and site visit on August 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.

The selected contractor shall serve as the single point of responsibility for both systems and may use properly licensed and qualified subcontractors. The sprinkler scope includes field verification of existing building conditions, NFPA 13-compliant design with hydraulic calculations covering Light Hazard (offices, restrooms, corridors, training and break rooms, bunk rooms) at 0.10 gpm/ft² over 1,500 square feet with 100 gpm outside hose demand, and Ordinary Hazard Group 1 (truck bays, storage, mechanical spaces, gear rooms) at 0.15 gpm/ft² over 1,500 square feet with 250 gpm outside hose demand. Underground piping extends from municipal water supply to the building. The fire alarm system must be NFPA 72-compliant and comprehensive; the existing 20-year-old alarm system shall be removed or approved abandoned. Both systems must comply with IBC 2021, IFC 2021, and South Carolina Building Code and Fire Code standards. Scope includes removal of existing systems, installation of all components, testing, inspection, final acceptance, closeout documentation in paper and electronic formats (approved shop drawings, as-built drawings, hydraulic calculations, operation and maintenance manuals, access codes and programming files), and training for Fire Department personnel. The building footprint is 13,910 square feet with an occupant load of 93 persons, located at 2605 SC Highway 414 in Travelers Rest, Greenville County.

The project completion deadline is July 1, 2027, with a tentative award date of September 18, 2026, and a Notice to Proceed issued September 25, 2026. Pricing shall be submitted as clearly separated, all-inclusive costs for the sprinkler system, fire alarm system, and combined total project price, with alternates and unit prices listed separately. Evaluation criteria—each equally weighted at 5 points—include responsiveness, cost, references, experience with similar projects, proposed approach and scope, and schedule. A bid bond of 5% of bid price is required, along with performance and payment bonds equal to the total bid price. The contractor must maintain comprehensive general liability insurance of $1 million per occurrence with $2 million general aggregate, automobile liability insurance of $1 million per occurrence, and statutory workers' compensation with employer's liability of $1 million per occurrence, naming the Tigerville Fire Department as additional insured on all policies except workers' compensation, automobile liability, and professional errors and omissions. A minimum one-year warranty on materials and workmanship from final acceptance is required. Questions are due August 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
