About this opportunity
The Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) is procuring general contracting services for interior renovations of its Administrative Offices located at 630 Harvey Street in Muskegon, Michigan (Project #1662-26). This construction project encompasses all labor, materials, and permits necessary for complete administrative office interior renovations, with the facility remaining occupied during construction. The general contractor will be fully responsible for coordination between all trades and subcontractors, including general construction and electrical work. The scope includes comprehensive electrical installation covering power distribution, lighting systems, data and telecommunications infrastructure, and fire alarm systems throughout the first floor. However, two addenda clarify scope exclusions: the owner will directly contract carpet flooring installation and fire alarm modifications, while the general contractor remains responsible for removal of existing carpet and vinyl base materials and must coordinate timing with the owner for fire alarm work. The electrical contractor is responsible for providing boxes and conduits only, with the owner supplying and installing all data cables. All electrical work must comply with the National Electrical Code and applicable federal and state ordinances and must be performed under supervision of a licensed master electrician. The bid opening is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at MAISD South Admin offices (684 Harvey Street), with sealed proposals to be delivered to Jesse Rickard, Associate Superintendent. Contract award is anticipated for May 18, 2026, with construction start scheduled for September 4, 2026, and substantial completion targeted for September 2026. Contractors may arrange site visits by contacting Steve Fillmore, Maintenance Supervisor, at 231-767-3695. Bids must remain firm for thirty days from the date of opening, and no pre-bid meeting will be held.
All bidders must submit bid security equal to five percent of the Base Bid in the form of a bid bond, certified check, or cashier's check made payable to MAISD, and must separately indicate costs for Performance and Labor and Material Payment Bonds covering 100 percent of project value, with these bond costs excluded from the Base Bid. The owner reserves the right to reimburse bond premium costs upon submission of invoices following contract award. All bids must be accompanied by a sworn statement disclosing any familial relationships between the bidder's owners or employees and members of the MAISD Board of Education or Superintendent, as well as an Affidavit of Compliance with the Iran Economic Sanctions Act. Michigan use and sales tax applies to the project. This project is funded with local resources and does not require prevailing wages, meaning there are no prevailing wage set-asides or restrictions. No incumbent vendors or current contractors are identified in the procurement documents. No specific award value or budget range is disclosed in the available documentation. Complete bid documents are available from Ajax Imaging at 777 East Sherman Boulevard, Muskegon, Michigan 49444, with drawings available for review at the Architect's office (Concept Design Studio, 800 East Ellis Road, Suite 508, Norton Shores, Michigan 49441).
