About this opportunity
George Mason University is requesting bids on the modernization of two hydraulic elevators in Enterprise Hall at its Fairfax, Virginia campus, with bids due October 16, 2026 and mandatory site visits required prior to submission. An optional pre-bid meeting is scheduled for September 14, 2026. The university has established a 50% Small, Women, and Minority-owned Business (SWaM) contractor participation goal for fiscal year 2026.
The scope includes renovation of elevator pits, replacement of elevator doors, and installation of new interior stainless steel panels, lighting, and call buttons; all work must bring the elevators to current code compliance under the 2021 Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. The building remains occupied during construction, with work permitted Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. requiring 48-hour advance written notification and project manager approval for outside-hours work. A bid alternate is available for modernization of Elevator No. 3 on the same terms.
Construction is scheduled to start November 2, 2026, with substantial completion required by March 1, 2028, and final completion within thirty calendar days thereafter. The construction documents were approved on March 17, 2026, by Cole & Denny Architects. Bidders must submit lump-sum pricing with detailed breakdowns by specification section and a project schedule meeting stated dates. Bids exceeding $500,000 require bid bonds (5% of bid amount), performance bonds, and labor and material payment bonds.
Bidders must be registered vendors in eVA, hold valid Virginia contractor licenses, and certify compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Questions are due September 30, 2026, with responses issued by October 6, 2026. Bid opening is October 19, 2026, with anticipated award October 26, 2026. All bids must remain valid for 60 calendar days following opening.
