About this opportunity

Trenton Public Schools is soliciting sealed bids for District Technology Renovations, a wireless network replacement and expansion at five Trenton, Michigan sites, with a pre-bid conference on November 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. and bids due December 3, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. The opportunity is tagged to Oakland County and Warren City. Bidders must demonstrate manufacturer authorization, and the Wi-Fi 7 alternate is mandatory for internal access points. Acceptable manufacturers are Cisco/Meraki, HPE/Aruba, or equal alternatives. No set-aside or local-vendor preference appears in the source.

The scope covers 350 internal Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) access points, 6 external Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) access points, centrally located controllers, management software, antennae, and Category 6 cabling. A mandatory alternate substitutes 350 internal Wi-Fi 7 access points. Contractors must perform RF propagation site surveys for owner approval, provide training for up to four designated system administrators, and remove existing wireless equipment and restore work areas. Work must comply with IEEE, NEC, EIA/TIA, IETF, FCC, and UL standards. Bidders must submit three references for similar projects completed within two years. The sites are Anderson Elementary, Hedke Elementary, Arthurs Middle School, Trenton High School, and the Trenton Administration Building. The designer is Communications by Design, Inc.

The contractor submits a lump sum base bid that includes a $15,000 allowance for owner-directed infrastructure upgrades and all applicable taxes and bond costs. The system warranty runs five years from substantial completion, with four-hour response for outages affecting 20 percent or more of users and two business days for other issues. Bidders must submit current annual maintenance pricing for the first year after the warranty period, which the owner uses in total cost of ownership evaluation. Bid security is 5 percent of the bid amount, by bid bond or certified check. The awardee provides performance and payment bonds each equal to 100 percent of the bid amount. Required insurance includes workers' compensation, general liability, automobile liability, and contingent liability and property damage, each with specified minimum limits.

Funding is contingent upon universal service discounts under the FY27 E-rate program, and bidders must provide a current USF Service Provider Identification Number. The owner may modify contract amounts, services, and products based on actual E-rate discount levels and may choose between BEAR or SPI filing. Bids are binding for 90 days from opening, and the owner may reject any or all bids or award portions to multiple bidders.

Intent to Bid forms and questions are due November 11, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Post-bid interviews are scheduled for December 13, 2026, with contractor selection in January 2027, work commencement on April 1, 2027, substantial completion by June 2027, and closeout by July 2027.
