The position requires Arizona State Bar admission in good standing and 1–3 years of experience handling felony cases. The attorney must maintain professional liability insurance and handle all phases of criminal defense including consultation, witness interviews, investigation oversight, trials, and appeals. Submissions are made through the Bonfire e-Procurement platform at https://gilariver.bonfirehub.com/portal/?tab=openOppurtunities.
Monthly compensation is $3,380.00 for approximately 90 cases annually (approximately 9 per month), with variance up to 105 cases per year without alteration of payment. An additional hourly rate may be available at the Chief Judge's discretion for time-intensive and complex felony cases. Mileage reimbursement is provided at the IRS standard rate. The contract period runs October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, with the Community retaining the option to renew for two additional one-year periods for a total term not exceeding three years.
Selection criteria are qualifications (40 points), tribal court experience (30 points), professional references (15 points), and Native American and Minority Preference considerations (up to 15 points). The deadline for inquiries is July 10, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. The Selection Committee will conduct review and selection on August 5, 2026, with anticipated award notification on August 14, 2026. Required submissions include a Statement of Qualifications, three professional references, Exhibits A through D, a current W9 form, and proof of professional liability insurance. The Community reserves the right to reject any qualifications and retains sole discretion to terminate services if the attorney is deemed ineffective, unresponsive, or incompetent.
